(04/20/2019)
Kanawha County deputies have released the name of the driver from a fatal crash Wednesday night on Interstate 79.

Steven Cooper, 60, of Spencer was transported to a hospital following the crash and was later pronounced dead, a news release from the sheriff’s office said.

The crash happened about 10:20 p.m. near the Frame exit.

Emergency crews said Cooper had to be cut from his car, a 1996 Chevrolet Caprice. Deputies said Cooper was traveling north on a curve when his car crossed the southbound lanes and crashed into a rock wall and ditch.

Deputies said based on the preliminary investigation, it is believed that Cooper had a pre-existing medical condition and was unable to control the vehicle at the time of the crash.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
