MAN DEAD - A man is dead after an overnight shooting in the middle of a Huntington street.

Emmanuel Lopez III, 26, of Huntington was shot multiple times about 11:50 p.m. Wednesday. Police say he later died of his wounds.

Five individuals reportedly drove away from the scene.

“Our detectives have been working leads all night and we have several leads,” said Hank Dial, Chief of Police for Huntington. “Hopefully an arrest will be forthcoming.”

As of this morning, Dial said no suspect was identified.

Investigators arrived to find Lopez lying in the middle of 11th Avenue in the 2100 block. Several shell casings were found nearby.

WANTON SHOOTING - Charleston police said a man faces a charge after he was accused of firing a gun out of his car window near several people.

Robert Steven Hicks II, 30, of Charleston is charged with wanton endangerment involving a firearm after an incident Monday in the 900 block of Somerset Drive, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.

The complaint said Hicks was parked on Somerset Drive when he stuck a handgun out of the driver’s side window and started shooting multiple .380 rounds near several people.

Three people who were near where the shots were fired said they did not know where the shots were coming from and feared injury or death when the shooting began.

After the shots were fired, Hicks fled south on Somerset Drive and was found in the 200 block of Sunset Drive, the complaint said.

Police said Hicks spoke with officers and made statements about firing the rounds.

Hicks is currently being held at South Central Regional Jail on a $15,000 or 10 percent cash bond.
