WOMAN DIES IN NEWTON, ROANE COUNTY FIRE - Two Dogs Also Perish

At least one person is dead after a fire in Roane County early Saturday morning.

An elderly woman and two dogs were killed, according to the West Virginia State Fire Marshal's Office.

She was identified by neighbors as an elderly woman, Wilma Jean Combs, 80, a retired health nurse.

The fatal fire was on Hollywood Road, in thr Newton-Tariff area in an off-road location. The home was a total loss.

Firefighters were on scene battling the flames around 8 a.m. Saturday. However, investigators believe the home was burning throughout the night and it may have gone unnoticed because of the location of the home.
