John Charles Zella, Jr., 58, of Gay

(03/26/2019)
John Charles Zella, Jr., 58, of Gay, W.Va., went to his heavenly home on March 15, 2019.

John was blessed with a delightful and loving family. He was born in Dorchester, Mass., to John and Janet Zella of Kingston, Mass., on October 15, 1960.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy Flashman of Gay; his daughter, Brandi Zella of Lowell, Mass.; his sister, Debbie Zella Shore and her husband, Paul of Aiken, S.C., his brother, Robert Zella of Ellenburg, S.C., his sister, Gail Zella Lancaster and her husband, Neil of North Weymouth, Mass.

He will be missed by his niece and nephews, Alicia and Ian Lancaster, Robbie, Ryan and Michael Zella. He also leaves behind his special friend, Billie Taylor, whom he thought of as a son, and Cathy's sons, Brian Spaulding and Jimi Gates.

He graduated from the Weymouth North High School in 1979 and was a proud member of the Local 12 Plumbers and Gasfitters Union, Boston, Mass., for 35 years.

John was an ordained minister, deeply immersed in his Christian faith; he was always encouraging others to "put on the full armor of God." He was kind and soft-spoken, telling anyone who would listen how fortunate and thankful he was to have retired to West Virginia, where he could enjoy the beauty of God's creation. He loved to use his ingenuity to solve any problem, and let us not forget what a great storyteller he was and how well he used his dry sense of humor!

He is dearly missed by his loved ones and his church family at Spencer Tabernacle, who celebrate the fact that he is now at peace with our Creator.

Pastor Loren Price will officiate a memorial service at 1 p.m. at the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer on Saturday, April 6, 2019. A gathering of for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service.

Condolences may be expressed to the family by visiting

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil...Ephesians 6:10-11
