Families prepare to say good-bye

Regional National Guardsmen are part of West Virginia's largest call-up linked to terrorism and the conflict with Iraq. The 1092nd Engineering Company at Spencer is base for Roane and Calhoun soldiers. Five-hundred soldiers attached to area units.

Troops told about call-up

The last time the engineer outfit was called to war was for Korea in 1950, but the unit was also placed on active duty during the Cuban missile crisis in 1962. In the past 40 years the 1092nd has been called to flood and disaster duty many times by the State of West Virginia.
