GLENVILLE MAN ARRESTED AFTER DRUG DELIVERY

(01/28/2018)
A Gilmer County man was arrested on drug and gun charges after a controlled delivery of a suspicious package to his Glenville residence.

According to a press release from the Upshur County Sheriff's Department, on Thursday, January 24, a controlled delivery was conducted for a suspicious package that was intercepted and addressed to a residence on Sycamore Run Road in Glenville. According to deputies, the suspicious package had been shipped from California and was determined to contain approximately two pounds of marijuana.

The controlled delivery was conducted by the Mountain Lakes Drug and Violent Crime Unit with the assistance of the West Virginia State Police Glenville and Sutton detachments and the Braxton County Sheriff's Department. The Mountain Lakes Drug and Violent Crime Unit is comprised of officers from the Upshur County Sheriff's Department, Braxton County Sheriff's Department, Buckhannon Police Department and West Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations.

The controlled delivery and subsequent search warrant was executed at the residence of Michael Florence in Glenville. During the search of Florence's residence, law enforcement located and seized the approximate two pounds of marijuana, approximately $5,000 in cash, digital scales, a mailing label indicative of a previous package from the same California sender and two firearms.

Deputies said that Florence was arrested on scene and charged with possession with intent to deliver a schdule I controlled substance (marijuana), and unauthorized possession of firearms by a person having a prior felony conviction.
