WEST VIRGINIA RANKED NEAR WORST STATE TO RETIRE |

| A recent study has named West Virginia as the third-worst state to retire in the United States. The personal-finance website WalletHub recently released a report on the best and worst states for citizens to retire in across the country. According to the website, these rankings were determined by comparing the 50 states across 46 key metrics, including adjusted cost of living, weather and quality of public hospitals. These metrics combined to create the three main dimensions used to rank each state. These dimensions were affordability, quality of life and health care. Each state was then given a total score to determine its ranking in the study. A full breakdown of these dimensions and their corresponding metrics can be found here. West Virginia came in near the very bottom of the rankings, as the study named the Mountain State the 48th best state to retire in, or the third-worst state to retire in. Despite the overall low ranking, West Virginia ranked near the middle of the pack in affordability, with an 'Affordability Rank' of 22. However, West Virginia found itself near the bottom of the other two dimensions, being ranked 41st in the 'Quality of Life Rank', and 49th in the 'Health Care' Rank. West Virginia's total score was 47.26, just 3.41 points ahead of the state that was in last place, Kentucky. The state that was named the best to retire in was Floriday, which was ranked number 1 in affordability, 7 in quality of life and 27 in health care. |
