Paris Foster Parsons, 99, of Spencer

Paris Foster Parsons, 99, of Spencer WV passed away on January 2, 2019 at Miletree Center, Spencer.

He was born March 29, 1919 at White Oak, Calhoun County WV. He was the son of the late Cary Benton and Ethel Boggs Parsons.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Orva Parson; brothers Garfield and Spencer Parsons; and sons-in-law, Orville Earl and Tom Shaffer.

Paris had been a farmer most of his life and was selected Farmer of the Year for Calhoun County in 1967. He was known for 30 years as an antique dealer and, as he put it, "We made many friends and had fun doing what we loved". He also worked at Ford Motor Company in Cleveland, Ohio and the Calhoun County State Road Dept. He also had a sawmill for several years and owned a General Store at Chloe in the 1950's. Paris enjoyed raising a wonderful vegetable garden every year from a young age and into his 90's.

Paris was inducted in the US Army on November 10, 1942 during WWII. He served as an MP in the campaigns at Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He also received two medals. Paris was a Protestant and was baptized by Rev. Lloyd Keith.

He is survived by three children, Judith Shaffer of Canton, Ohio, Betty Earl of Parkersburg WV, and Bob and Pat Parsons of Canton; six grandchildren, Diane, Cathy, Mark, Chris, Lisa, and Rob; eight great-grandchildren Heath, MaryBeth, Garrett, Rylee, Ryker, Liam, Brody, and Dylan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at Stump Funeral Home & Cremation, Inc., Arnoldsburg, WV on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 12-noon with Rev. Jim Lough officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Clark Jarvis Cemetery on White Oak.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given, in honor of Paris Parsons, to the Roane County Animal Shelter, 2550 Parkersburg Rd., Spencer, WV 25276.
