ELEVEN CLAY-ROANE DEER HUNTERS ARRESTED FOR ILLEGAL KILLS

(01/05/2019)
Eleven people, including at least two juveniles, have been cited for multiple illegal buck kills in Clay and Roane counties.

Investigators with the West Virginia Natural Resources Police said they were able to pursue the case thanks to an anonymous tip from someone who had first-hand information.

A total of eight bucks, three of which met the criteria of trophy class (15.75; 16.25 & 16.75 inside spread), were illegally killed by the 13 people who either have been or will be cited, police said.

They added that the deer were shot with a .22 rifle while spotlighting.

Each of the accused could face up to 25 charges each.

The investigating officer of the case said at least two others will be cited. Once that portion of the investigation is complete, a list of names of those charged will be provided.

Natural Resources officers added that they are able to investigate a number of cases because of tips from the public.
