Steven Russell Martin, 50, of Spencer

Steven Russell Martin, 50, of Spencer, surrounded by his family, passed away December 31, 2018.

Survivors include his mother, Peggy Martin of Reedy; son, Steven C. (Cierra) Martin of Spencer; daughter, Kelana (David) Austin of Reedy; stepdaughter, Amy (Rodney) Harper; grandson, Dylan; brother, David (Tina) Martin of Reedy; sister, Patty (George) Jones of Reedy; special friend, Mary Ann Parsons and her grandson, Dalton Jones.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roy L. Martin; wife, Melanie D. Martin; sister, Loretta Hughes; paternal grandparents, Alfred and Grace Martin; maternal grandparents, Russell and Ethel Hosey.

Steven was a logger. He worked for Waldo Nichols, Jerald Bowman, Mountaineer Excavating, Martin Timber, Freddie Bush, and Litman Construction. He finished his logging career working for his brother, at D&M Logging.

His passion was coon hunting and fox chasing which his pap, Alfred Martin started him doing around the age of five. Steven was also an avid deer hunter.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 3 at the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Gary Tomblin officiating. Burial will be in the Fox Cemetery, Reedy. The visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
