STEVENS MURDER CASE SUBJECTS SET FOR TRIAL - Cain Appears For Pre-Trial Hearing In Shooting Case

Judge Anita Harold Ashley held Circuit Court in Grantsville Thursday.

Prosecutor Shannon Johnson said Thomas Wayne Cain, 52, appeared for a pre-trial hearing on a charge of malicious assault, a felony.

Cain is facing charges related to the shooting of Scott Butler, about 40, on December 7, 2017, on Walnut Road. Cain's trial is set for February 5, 2019 and a pre-trial hearing for January 31, 2019.

Brandon Batton appeared for a final review of his probation. After hearing that Mr. Batton had successfully completed his probation, the court dismissed his felony charge of burglary, a felony, and ordered that he stand convicted of destruction of property, a misdemeanor.

Batton was ordered to pay S700.00) restitution to the victims in the case, James and Evelyn McCormick of Grantsville.

Jamie Miller, Evan Hersman, and Heather Davis appeared for a pre-trial hearing related to the murder of Eugene Stephens.

The parties reported to the court regarding the ongoing discovery process and the court noted that the case was still scheduled for trial on December 18, 2018.

The court also heard nineteen juvenile cases, one family court case, and one Civil case.
