JACKSON PARTS PLANT CLOSED - Production Shifts To Mexico

(02/01/2003)
G.S. of West Virginia, a motor parts company, is closing its doors at Silverton in Jackson County. The producer of wire harnesses for automobiles has been in operation since 1995, and once employed nearly 350.

About 90 people who remain at the plant will receive a severance package.

The company is reportedly shifting operations to Mexico.

President George Suzuki says the Jackson County plant was unable to compete in the global market. Suzuki says many automobile manufacturers are moving their parts productions to other countries, which make the parts cheaper.

Suzuki said good things about workers in Jackson County, and the State of West Virginia being a great partner.
