Thomas A. Friend, 73, of Gassaway, passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 18, 2018.Born November 3, 1945 he was a lifelong resident of Chapel and was a good friend neighbor to all who knew him. Tom retired from the B&O Railroad and as owner of Friend's Ditch Witch and Backhoe Service. Tom enjoyed fishing and squirrel hunting and experiencing his grandkids first deer kill. Tom is survived by his wife, Cindy Friend of Gassaway; sister, Velma Seal of Riffle; daughters, Sue Frame of Exchange, Terri Miller (Mark) of Gassaway, Carol Carr (Lanty) of Gassaway; stepchildren, Dale Clark (Nikki) of Chloe, Terri Butler of Nebo, and special niece, Tracy Miller of Frametown, WV; grandchildren, Chris Fisher, Kelli Robinson, Dustin Miller (Jessica), Katelyn Miller, Spencer Carr, Jaden Carr, Felicia Blake (Richard), Kayla Morris (Chris), Cody Clark and Brooke Dawson. Tom was also blessed with 17 great grandchildren that he loved dearly. Preceding Tom in death was his mother, Alice Nicholas Sawyers; stepfather, Denzil Sawyers, and one brother, John D. Sawyers. Tom was a member of the Old German Community Church, Chapel. He loved the Lord, his church and his church family. Tom will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him. Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at the Old German Community Church, Chapel with Pastor Rick Hart officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Chapel.
