OFFICER SHOOTING SUSPECT WITH KNIFE - A man is dead after an officer-involved shooting Friday afternoon on Charleston's West Side.

Andrew Moore, 25, is identified as the man who died. Police say he was trying to cut his fiancee's throat at the time and threatened to kill her.

Charleston Police Chief Steve Cooper said officers were justified in using deadly force in the situation.

The shooting happened around 3 p.m. in the Orchard Manor housing development.

Police say Moore had a long history of domestic abuse, and there was a small child inside the home at the time. Officers say they were initially notified the suspect had threatened to kill the toddler. When they arrived, that child had wandered out the front door.

The officers who shot Moore are on paid leave as the investigation is underway.
