SWINE ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION (AI) WORKSHOP SCHEDULED

WVU-Roane County Extension Agent A morning intensive workshop on artificial insemination (AI) is being offered by West Virginia University Extension Service in Roane County. The workshop will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at the Roane County 4-H and FFA Youth Livestock Barn on Lick Fork Road in Spencer, West Virginia from 10 AM to 1 p.m.

Topics include anatomy and physiology of the female reproductive tract, effective techniques for heat detection, demonstration of intrauterine insemination, proper sow nutrition, gilt development and semen handling and storage.

Many hands-on activities are included to maximize learning and understanding, and to deal with the challenges of AI and on-farm reproductive problems. Natasha Winslow Harris, an Extension Agent from Upshur County will be the main course instructor and will be assisted by local WVU-Roane County Extension Agent Brandy Brabham and Aaron Harris from Harris Livestock, a swine and cattle farm in Barbour County, WV.

This workshop is free and open to everyone regardless of county residence. Please wear close-toed shoes and dress for outdoor weather.
