Each year during Annual Conference, the WVU Extension Service recognize excellence among its faculty and staff. This year, the WVU-Roane County Extension Service's Administrative Assistant, Joyce Foster received the Individual County-based Staff Award of Excellence.

The award honors Extension county-paid staff with more than three years of employment with the WVU Extension Service who have contributed to improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the overall county programming efforts.

Joyce joined the WVU Extension Service in Roane County in 2014 as the administrative assistant. Joyce has coordinated the office's communications with the public on the many programs offered through the local office.  She designs, prints and mails their bi-monthly newsletter that goes out to over 800 clientele.  She manages outreach efforts with weekly newspaper columns, press releases, and event and workshop reminders. She also helps keep the local WVU Extension Service's clientele informed with social media and email updates as well.

Joyce goes the extra mile to assist at camp during the annual Roane County 4-H Camp and at the Spencer armory with exhibits during the WV Black Walnut Festival. Joyce exhibits excellence in assisting the office in meeting the diverse needs of existing clientele, such as 4-H youth, schools, gardeners, farmers, and many more adults and young people; while encouraging new clientele to take advantage of the vast resources that West Virginia University offers through the local Extension Service.

Connecting the people of West Virginia to the University's resources and programs is the primary goal of WVU Extension Service and its 55 offices throughout the state.  Local experts, like WVU Extension's agents and specialists, work to help improve the lifestyles and well-being of youths, workforces, communities, farms and businesses through trusted research and the West Virginia 4-H program in the counties in which they serve.
