John Patrick Godfrey, Sr., 73, of Gandeeville

John Patrick Godfrey, Sr., 73, of Gandeeville, died Friday, October 12, 2018, at home, after an extended illness.

He was born April 8, 1945, in Washington, D.C., the son of the late Noble Hoover and Mary Patricia Vermillion Godfrey.

John was a retired employee of the University of Maryland Baltimore County. He was a Navy veteran of the Viet Nam War, a member of the American Legion and the N.R.A. Also, he was a taxidermist.

Survivors include his wife, Denise Miller Godfrey of Gandeeville; son, John Patrick Godfrey, Jr. of Owings Mills, Md.; stepson, Bryan Michael Miller of Essex, Md.; brothers, Robert Daniel Godfrey of Westminster, Md., Charles Kenneth Godfrey of Whitehall, Md. and Gary Noble Godfrey of Reisterstown, Md.; brothers-in-law, Ronald L. Miller of York, Penn. and Gary C. Miller of Rising Sun, Md.; sisters-in-law, Karen L. Orbin of Rising Sun and Cheryl Fertitta of Westminster; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

A memorial service and burial in the Ascension Cemetery, Bowie, Md. will be held at a later date.

John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, is assisting with the arrangements.
