WV LEADS NATION WITH DEER COLLISIONS 12 YEARS RUNNING

(10/03/2018)
According to a study conducted by State Farm, West Virginia is the most likely state for deer collisions while driving.

This is the 12th straight year that West Virginia ranks number one in deer/vehicle collisions, according to this study.

The data for this study was gathered between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018 for the '6th Annual State Farm Deer/Vehicle Collision Study. The likelihood of a deer collision in West Virginia is 1 in 46, down from 1 in 43 from the previous year's study.

The national average has also decreased from 1 in 162 in the previous year's study to 1 in 167 for this year's study.

The second most likely state for deer/vehicle collisions is Montana (1 in 57), followed by Pennsylvania (1 in 63).

November is the worst month for deer/vehicle collisions the study says, followed by October.

According to the study, there were 1.33 million deer claims reported to State Farm between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018. Of those 1.33 million nationwide claims, there were 25,176 deer claims reported to State Farm in West Virginia during that period.
