a sunny day walking the track at Pleasant Hill Elementary

Did you know that PHE has a new and improved walking track? The walking track that circles the back playground at Pleasant Hill Elementary received a new blacktop surface in June thanks to the fundraising efforts of the Track Renovation Committee that was formed in August, 2017.

Students now have a safe place to walk and run during recess and physical education classes and they are already enjoying it. The school invites the public to use the track as well during after school hours.

Through grant writing efforts, a mailing campaign, and a BBQ dinner, enough money was collected to complete the project. Pleasant Hill would like to give very special thanks to the following donors for helping them reach their goal: Sisters Health Foundation grant, Calhoun Banks, Brooksville Baptist Church, Ray Holbert, Pleasant Hill Methodist Church, Blessed Hope Baptist Church, Stump Funeral Home, Von Yoak, Patsy Kisner, John Queen, and Nancy Taylor.

Also, Bonnie Sands, Joyce Queen-White, Maggie Bennett, Doris Weekley, Jim Yeager, Kelli Whytsell, Linda Vanhorn, Kathy Wood, Carrol Dye, Robert Bonar, Linda Edwards, Rebecca Miller, Bessie Welch, Bette Ritchie, Lee and Phyllis Evans, Fred Hannah, Dotti Nemitz, Vicki Hardway, Jackie Collins-Frail, Jane Carpenter, Judy Prusack and all those who attended the BBQ dinner and gave generous donations.

Track Renovation Committee members are: Larry Stinn, Brenda Wilson, Amy Nicholas, Jan Whited, Sarah Tingler, Jim Sullivan, and Lori Parsons.

Now that phase one of the walking track is completed, phase two of fundraising efforts will begin, in order to provide lighting for the track. Calhoun Banks has already donated toward this endeavor and committee members are in the process of applying for another grant.

If you would like to help reach that goal, please contact PHE or mail your donation to PHE, 3254 N Calhoun Hwy, Grantsville, WV 26147.
