NEW STATE POLICY INVOLVES CHILDREN AND PARENTS AT BUS STOPS

(08/10/2018)
Calhoun Schools has issued a new State Policy that involves children and parents at the bus stop.

This article is to inform parent and guardians of a recent change in WV Department of Transportation Policy 4336. There has been a form developed and included with your child's Student Bus Enrollment Form, to complete and return in order to meet the requirements of this new policy.

Please complete and return this form to the bus driver as soon as possible. Failure to complete this form will cause undue hardship to you as the parent or guardian and possibly delays in the route due to the fact your child will be transported back to the school because the proper designee was not at the bus stop to pick your child from the bus.

Also mentioned in this article is WVDE Policy 2525, please read carefully what the policy states concerning children of preschool age.

Policy 4336

4.1.2. Parents are responsible for providing supervision as bus arrives for both pickup and delivery. Because of those received questions, this office offers the following interpretation for the intent of this section in Policy:

If a parent cannot be physically present at the bus stop then it is their responsibility to ensure that supervision is provided at that stop. The parent can designate a person to act in their place to assist the child. It shall be up to the parent to determine who that will be.

Additionally, PK wasn't included in 4.1.2 because it is covered already in WVDE Policy 2525 Section 7.1.C

Policy 2525

7.1.c.      staff shall be available to assist children on and off buses at the WV Pre-K site.  If a parent or guardian is unable to meet the bus, there shall be a person designated by the parent or guardian to assist the child.
