80-YEAR-OLD PILOT DEAD IN RITCHIE COUNTY PLANE CRASH IDENTIFIED

A Doddridge County man has been identified as the pilot who died Monday night when his aircraft crashed near Pennsboro.

The Ritchie County sheriff's office says Doit Koppler, 80, who was piloting a single-engine paraplane, died in the crash.

Initial reports of a plane going down first came in about 7:30 p.m. Monday.

The crash happened at a landing strip near River Road in Pennsboro.

Local authorities stayed at the scene overnight, and officials with the Federal Aviation Administration arrived Tuesday morning to investigate what caused the crash.
