(01/17/2003)
Gov. Bob Wise filled three empty spots on a the problem-ridden state school board, after the resignation of its own president J. D. Morris, who amditted he was guilty to embezzling school scholarship funds from the Clay County Bank, where he was president.

The system has also been charged with mishandling contracts and exercising favoritism.

Wise appointed former Sen. Lloyd Jackson II, D-Lincoln, to the board, as was expected. Jackson is a leader in consolidation of schools and services in the state.

Wise also named Republican Priscilla Haden, a longtime educator and former president of the Kanawha County Board of Education.

He also reappointed Sheila Hamilton, a Democrat from Shepherdstown.

The senate must approve the appointments.
