Dorothy "Dot" S. Ryan, 98, of Spencer

(05/29/2018)
Dorothy "Dot" S. Ryan, went to be with our Lord on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at the age of 98.

She was born November 27, 1919 in Philadelphia, PA to the late George and Marion Spaeth. She married in 1945 to the love of her life, Walter Ryan, who preceded her in death in 2005. The couple resided in Southampton, PA throughout their marriage and lived in the same home where they raised their only child, Ronald Lynn Ryan. In 2011, Dorothy moved to Spencer, WV to be near her son and his family.

Dorothy enjoyed handwork, baking, and gardening. She was deeply involved in church and community volunteer work. She was a long-time member (50 years) of Bible Baptist Church in Southampton, PA and attended the First Baptist Church in Spencer after moving to West Virginia. She was welcomed by her new church family and by the people at the Committee on Aging. She enjoyed having lunch at the COA and gained many friends during this time.

One of her many friends, John Buck, picked her up daily for lunch after she stopped driving at the age of 95. Even after she was unable to attend, he brought her meal to her faithfully and visited with her while she enjoyed her lunch.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Walter; her parents; two brothers, George and Roy Spaeth; and one sister, Betty Muska.

She is survived by her baby sister, Joan Marshall (Bill Marshall) of Kansas; her son, Ronald (Debbie Ryan) of Reedy; grandchildren, Ronald Christopher, Rachel Heis (Nathan Heis), Isaac, Erin, Kansas, and Michael O'Brien; great-granddaughter, Amberlynn Ryan; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service honoring her life will be held on June 2, 2018 at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church in Spencer. All family and friends are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bible Baptist Church, 1717 Street Road, Southampton, PA 18966 or First Baptist Church of Spencer, 338 Main Street, Spencer, WV 25276.

TaylorVandale Funeral Home in Spencer is in charge of the arrangements for the Ryan family.
