MISSIONARY SPEAKS ABOUT AFGHAN LIFE - Poverty And Oppression Abound

(01/17/2003)
Dr. Donald Shamblin, an educational missionary, spoke to Calhoun Middle School students yesterday about his recent experiences in Afghanistan. Shamblin, a first cousin to Grantsville resident Roger Jarvis, taught English in Kabul.

He spoke about the devastation and poverty after years of bombing, and the customs of the country. He said Afghan women still suffer oppression, unable to expose their face, sing, listen to music or laugh.

Shamblin, a resident of Colorado Springs, has been a missionary for Servant's Ministry in Colorado Springs, and has been with his wife to India, China, Haiti and numerous other countries.
