Erma Lee McClain, 75, of Newton

Erma Lee McClain, 75, of Newton, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Hubbard Hospice House West, South Charleston.

She was born November 4, 1942 at Ovapa, a daughter of the late Herman D. and Clydie M. Drennen McKown.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Leo McClain, November 20, 2017; sister, Barbara Cook; brother, Charles I. "Buddy" McKown.

Erma was a retired teacher's aide at Geary Elementary/Middle School, Left Hand and a former cook at the Newton Grade School, Newton. She was a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church, Elana. Her pastimes included spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and flower gardening.

Survivors include a daughter, Tamara "Tammy" Cook of Spencer; son, Robert Scott McClain of Left Hand; grandchildren, Justin Cook, Jonathon Cook, Brittany McClain and Emily Hersman; great grandchildren, Layla, Josiah and Tucker Cook; brothers, Herman McKown, Jr. of Newton, Gary McKown of Spencer and Wayne McKown of Clendenin; sisters, Madge Price of Billings, Jean Ashley of Spencer and Valleria Conley of Henrico, Va.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 25 in the Zion Hill Cemetery, Elana, with the Rev. Ron Fisher officiating. There will be no visitation.

Memorial donations are preferred to either the Zion Hill Baptist Church or the Zion Hill Cemetery.

John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, is in charge of arrangements.
