I-79 SOUTHBOUND CLOSED IN BRAXTON COUNTY

(05/16/2018)
I-79 southbound is shut down in Braxton County after the roadway seriously buckled, hooved and cracked.

According to the Braxton County Sheriff's Department, the 47.5 mile marker is shut down in between the Frametown and Servia exits southbound after the roadway buckled Monday night.

The WV Department of Highways says heat and humidity and underground water caused the roadway to buckle.

A detour has been set up at the Frametown exit of I-79 southbound for vehicles to leave the roadway. From there, drivers are being detoured onto Route 4 south before being diverted onto Servia-Elmira Road.

Servia-Elmira Road swings back to the interstate at the exit 46 Servia exit 3-4 miles down the roadway.

WVDOH says the work will take all day and lanes should re-open by Wednesday morning.
