He was born February 9, 1991 a son of Danny and Terri Funk.

He spent his life as a talented mechanic working at places such as Mid-State Chevrolet and Big Chimney Auto and Diesel.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by wife, Jessica Funk; daughter, Roselyn Funk; sons, Landon and Hoyt Funk; brother, Justin Funk; step-sister Christy White; grandparents, Ron and Lois Cummings; and many other relatives whom love and miss him dearly.

Derek was preceded in death by grandparents, Okey and Nellie Cottrell and Fred and Twila Funk; cousin, Johnny Jr. Cottrell; mother-in-law, Darlene Gooslin; two nieces, Patricia and Aryanne Jackson; and nephew, Ryan Jackson.

A memorial service will be held at Upper West Fork Park, Chloe, WV (Calhoun County) on May 20, 2018 at noon. All are welcome.
