KNIVES AND KIDS - Another parent is now facing charges after police say she wasn't paying attention to her 5-year-old child while he was playing outside with knives.

Mechell Brisendine, 28, of South Charleston, is charged with child neglect creating risk of injury.

South Charleston Police say on April 12, a 5-year-old and 6-year-old were found outside on Kingswood Drive playing with knives. A passerby told police that they children were throwing the knives into the air.

When police arrived on scene they said the two children where waving the knives around and stabbing the ground in front of them. Two of the knives were steak knives and the other two were santoku knives with 7" blades.

Neither of the children were injured.

Police say when they took the 5-year-old back to his home, they found Brisendine asleep upstairs.

The 6-year-old's parents, Barbara and Chad Counts, were also charged with child neglect creating risk of injury. They were arrested on April 17.
