Mary Lea West (née Sampson) passed away in the early hours of Saturday April 14, 2018 after having battled severe illness for the past few months.Mary was born March 7, 1953 in Grantsville, WV to Oral "Hoot" and Ruby Sampson. Mary's early life was centered around Grantsville and the surrounding area with her siblings, Ellen Cohen (Sampson), Otis "Otie" Sampson, Willard Sampson and Kenneth "Kenny" Sampson. Mary graduated from Calhoun County High School, and worked in various areas to include BF Goodrich. Mary married and had one son of her own and mothered her two stepsons, Travis West and Tracy West. In most recent years Mary worked with the Department of Health and Human Services as an administrative assistant. Mary was a witty and cheerful person who worked hard, and loved to spend time with family and friends as much as possible. Mary was a talented individual who always looked forward to a new project to work on. Her numerous hobbies included gardening, camping and quilting. Mary is survived by her fiance Robert "Bob" Carpenter, her siblings Ellen Cohen, Otis "Otie" Sampson and Willard Sampson, her son Kenneth "KC" West and family, Matthew Carpenter and family, Melissa George (Carpenter) and family as well as numerous extended family and friends. Memorial services will be held at Stump Funeral Home & Cremation, Inc., Arnoldsburg, WV on Tuesday April 17, 2018 at 7 pm with Rev. Rick Metheney officiating.
