SKAGGS PLEADS GUILTY TO HOME INVASION CHARGES IN ROANE - Arrested In Calhoun After Lengthy Manhunt

A Roane County man who was temporarily staying in Calhoun, has pled guilty to a homeowner invasion on Egypt Ridge, not far from the Calhoun that happened in January.

Justin Ray Skaggs, 20, was recently arrested by multiple authorities at a Mt. Zion ridge residence, after a manhunt of several weeks.

Skaggs admitted he knocked the door down of the Egypt Ridge residence occupied by Mike Maloney, and demanded his car keys. Maloney denied the keys and Skaggs an another male fled the area after reportedly cutting the phone and electric lines.

He pled guilty to burglary and conspiracy charges in the Roane County incident.

Skaggs reportedly conspired with a Calhoun man, Dylan Little, 25, who has already been jailed on other charges. Little has yet to be charged with the Egypt Ridge incident.

Authorities filed additional charges against Skaggs relating to a Calhoun incident.

MULTIPLE LAW AGENCIES MAKE MIDNIGHT ARRESTS AT MT. ZION - Skaggs And Roberts Incarcerated

UPDATE 4/6/2018 - State Police and multiple authorities arrested Justin Ray Skaggs, 20, of Buffalo Rocks, Grantsville at Mt. Zion late Thursday night, charging him with multiple counts related to the theft of a $300 sign-thermometer from the carport of Roy Pursley of Mt. Zion, Skaggs selling the object to a local resident, according to the criminal complaint.

Skaggs had been wanted for burglary and attempted robbery for a Jan. 8 incident at a residence on Egypt Ridge Road, not far from the Calhoun line, and had managed to elude police for several weeks.

The Calhoun Sheriffs Department arrested Hunter Leigh Roberts, 24, of Mt. Zion, for harboring Skaggs. She was charged with obstructing Skaggs arrest, while Skaggs was attempting to flee out of second story window, according to the criminal complaint.

About seven police units participated in the arrest.

Both are facing multiple charges (see earlier story) and are in Central Regional Jail.

UPDATE 4/6/2018 - Two people were taken into custody and arrested at Mt. Zion just before midnight by multiple law enforcement agencies, according to Calhoun Deputy Sheriff Chaz Ruppert.

A Roane County man, Justin Ray Skaggs, 20, was charged with receiving and transferring stolen property, burglary, and robbery or attempted robbery. He is in Central Regional Jail.

Also arrested was a Calhoun woman Hunter Leigh Roberts, 24, who was charged accessory after the fact and obstructing. She is in Central Regional Jail.

About seven police units descended on a residence where the couple were staying just before midnight, including US Marshals, WV State Police, Calhoun Sheriffs Department, and Roane County Sheriffs Department.

MULTIPLE LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES TAKE MT. ZION COUPLE INTO CUSTODY - Federal Agents And Officials Make Arrests About Midnight

ORIGINAL 4/5/2018 - Multiple law enforcement officers including State Police, Calhoun Sheriffs Department and US Marshals, took a man and woman into custody just before midnight Thursday from a residence a short distance from the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.

The residence is located about 1/10 of a mile north of the church in the Village of Mt. Zion along WV State Rt. 16.

About seven police units and unmarked cars reportedly surrounded the house.

A newly hired part-time Calhoun Sheriffs Deputy Chaz Ruppert was at the incident. Rupert is a full-time deputy in Roane County.

Authorities said they were taking the couple to the Big Otter Detachment of the West Virginia State Police for processing.
