RITCHIE MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER

(02/25/2018)
By Bob Weaver

A Ritchie County court has sentenced Burton Lowell Anderson, Jr., about 53, to serve 5-25 years in prison, after being found guilty of Attempted 1st Degree Murder and Malicious Wounding.

In 2015, Anderson was arrested and charged with attempted murder after police say he hit a man with his truck.

According to West Virginia State Police, Burton Anderson, Jr., then 50, of Harrisville, drove off the side of Mayberry Road, nearly six feet off the roadway, and tried to run over Larry Foster II, who was riding a dirt bike.

Police said Anderson ran over Foster and his bike, and made no attempt to apply the brakes or go around him. Anderson also continued driving after running over Foster, and didn't stop to render aid, police said.

Foster then picked up his bike, moved it away from the roadway and started walking on Mayberry Road to go call 911 for help.

Anderson then turned around and came back toward Foster, police said, trying to hit him a second time. Foster ran up an embankment and jumped a fence into a field to keep from getting hit.

Police said Anderson stopped his vehicle and yelled to Foster that he would kill him because he was a snitch.

Also sentenced in Ritchie:

Benny Ray Workman, sentenced to 131-295 years in prison, guilty of Sexual Assault in the Second Degree (x6), Sexual Abuse by a Custodian (x7), and Sexual Abuse in the First Degree.

Raymond C. Reed, sentenced to serve 10-20 years in prison, with 30 years of extended supervised released, entered a guilty plea to Sexual Abuse by a Parent.
