KANAWHA MAN ARRESTED IN CALHOUN ON RT. 16 AFTER LONG CHASE - Speed Reaching 120 MPH, Myers Facing Multiple Charges

(02/26/2018)
By Bob Weaver

An Elkview, Kanawha County man, identified as Michael R. Myers, 36, was apprehended by authorities at Minnora Friday night about 9 p.m. following a chase up Interstate 79 and into Calhoun County down Rt. 16 from Big Otter.

Myers was wanted for previous offenses, and had recently been released from jail.

First Sgt. O. S. Starsick said Kanawha County deputies chased Myers up I-79, his Ford Mustang often hitting 120 miles per hour.

TFC J. M. Ellis picked up the pursuit at Big Otter when Myers turned north on State Rt. 16, traveling to Arnoldsburg.

Other officers from Braxton, Roane and Calhoun, including Calhoun Deputy Jason Elkins, joined the pursuit.

"When Myers reached Arnoldsburg he whipped around at the Ron Lane lot and headed back south on Rt. 16, his speed decreasing likely because of mechanical problems, sometimes traveling 15-20 miles per hour," said Sgt. Starsick.

Officers laid spike strips across the road near Minnora, which caused the vehicle to stop.

Myers was apprehended and taken to Braxton Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and then to Central Regional Jail.

He will be charged with fleeing DUI, fleeing with reckless indifference and obstructing an officer, and likely charges he was already facing.
