Lyla Jean Stump Sharps, 81, of Glenville

Lyla Jean Stump Sharps, 81, of Glenville, WV departed this life in the early morning hours of Monday, February 5, 2018 at her residence in Camden Flats, following an extended illness.

Born February 7, 1936 in Apple Farm, WV; (Calhoun County), Lyla is the daughter of the late Edwin E. and Lurland Robinson Stump.

Lyla was a graduate of Calhoun County High School, class of 1954 and also a graduate of Glenville State College. She was a retired assistant foreman in the fitting department for Kinney Shoe and spent time as a substitute teacher for the Gilmer County Board of Education. In her spare time, Lyla enjoyed reading books, cheering on Gilmer County athletics, Glenville State College athletics, and anything related to WVU sports.

On January 5, 1957 Lyla was united in marriage to David Lee Sharps Sr. who preceded her in death on July 31, 2011.

Surviving are 3 children, David L. Sharps (Marcia) of Spencer, WV; Diane Sharps of Glenville, and Anna I. Dahmer (Jerry) of Sutton, WV; 1 brother, Garrel V. Stump (Dorothy) of Parkersburg, WV; 4 grandchildren, Marina Graber (Alan) of Ripley, WV, Kassi Sharps (Devin Birkhimer) of Columbus, OH; Robbie A. Graber of Los Angeles, CA; and Brock McVaney (Shila) of Parkersburg, WV; and 5 great-grandchildren, Sebastian, Kierstin, and Zachary Graber all of Ripley , WV; Waylon A. Birkhimer of Columbus, Oh; and Beau McVaney of Parkersburg, WV.

Along with her parents and husband, Lyla is preceded in death by 1 son, Steven W. Sharps, 1 brother, Dean R. Stump, and 1 infant brother, Edwin D. Stump.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc; 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV at 1:00 PM Friday February 9, 2018 with Pastor Bryan Groves officiating. Burial will follow in the Sand Fork Cemetery in Sand Fork, WV. Friends will be received from 4-8 PM Thursday evening at the mortuary.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to WV Caring (Hospice) P.O. Box 323, Burnsville, WV, 26335 in Lyla's honor.
