COUNTY VFDS MAKE MAJOR UPGRADES TO EXTRACTION EQUIPMENT - Cumbersome Equipment Replaced By Quick-To-Use Lightweight System

Up-to-date extraction equipment placed in service at Upper West Fork VFD (L to R) Asst. Chief Joe Tanner and Fire Chief Fred Waybright Calhoun's three volunteer fire departments have made a major upgrade with emergency extraction equipment. For decades the "Jaws of Life" equipment was driven by cumbersome hydraulic pumps and hoses. The Arnoldsburg, Upper West Fork and Grantsville VFDs have purchased new Hurst extraction sets, costing each department $26,000, which cuts the extraction time in half. The new equipment has been placed in service.
