Virgil Ray Tanner, 59, of Vienna

Virgil Ray Tanner, 59, of Vienna, WV, passed away at Marietta Memorial Emergency Department on January 14, 2018.

He was born in Glenville, WV on December 11, 1958, and was raised by Cora Schoolcraft Wagoner.

In 1978, he graduated from Calhoun County High School. While there, he met his high school sweetheart, Jeannie Vaughan. Virgil continued his education at Glenville State College, before marrying Jeannie in 1984. Together, they have three beautiful daughters. Nothing made him happier than looking after and doting on his wife and their daughters.

He worked at Grantsville Foodland for many years, working his way up to store manager. More recently, he worked at Coldwater Creek as outbound manager and was currently employed by MSC Industrial Supply in sales. Virgil loved to play basketball and was a huge fan of the WV Mountaineers and the Dallas Cowboys. Virgil will be missed beyond words.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Jeannie Vaughan Tanner, their three daughters, Melody, Hayley and Abby Tanner, all of Vienna, WV, Cora Wagoner of Chloe, WV and his brothers, Tim Schoolcraft of Denver, NC and Jeremy Schoolcraft of Orma, WV.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Roy and Cora Tanner, and his in-laws, Lloyd and Elva Vaughan.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Stump Funeral Home & Cremation, Inc., 107 Market St, Grantsville, WV with Pastor Tim Hickman officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 12:00 pm until the time of service at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow immediately at Pleasant Hill UMC Cemetery.

Please plan to join his family and friends at Brooksville Baptist Church Family Life Center after the burial for food and time to share your great memories of Virgil with his daughters. They love to hear the old stories of their dad's antics.
