Calhoun County Sheriff Jeff Starcher has lost deputy Warren Basnett and will be seeking to hire a new deputy.

Basnett resigned to attend Glenville State College, issuing his resignation this week.

Sheriff Starcher said three applicants who applied with the civil service board will be reviewed and tested for the position.

Deputy Jason Elkin has until April to enter the State Police Academy to qualify as a Calhoun deputy.

Meanwhile, news has been released that a detachment of the West Virginia State Police is being reinstated in Grantsville on January 20, according to District Commander O. S. Starsick.
