JOBLESS RATE INCREASES IN ALL 55 WV COUNTIES - Donald Trump: "West Virginia Doing Fantastically Now," Calhoun Has Highest Unemployment

(01/03/2018)
Unemployment rates rose in all 55 West Virginia counties in November, while President Donald Trump told the NY Times, "You know West Virginia is doing fantastically now," since his presidency.

"I'm the one that saved coal. I'm the one that created jobs," Trump said, while nearly all national audits says the state is at or near the bottom in nearly all economic categories at the end of 2017.

West Virginia's gross domestic product did increase 3 percent in the first quarter of 2017, due in part to the increased price of metallurgic coal, which is used to make steel, and a price increase in natural gas exports.

Calhoun County had the highest unemployment rate at 9.5 percent.

In coal county, Mingo County was next at 8.8 percent and McDowell County was at 8.4 percent.

The national unemployment rate, based on workers receiving jobless benefits, was 5.3 percent.
