The Clay County Sheriffs Department arrested Nathan William Stephenson, 39, charging him with assault, reportedly for a threatened stabbing of one time State Senator Randy Schoonover.

The criminal complaint, according to the Clay Communicator, said "Upon arrival I was greeted by Schoonover and was informed that Stephenson had verbally told him he was going to cut his eyes and kill him."

Further in the complaint, "Upon arriving at the residence of Randy Schoonover, Holcomb was greeted by Rita Smith and welcomed into the house. Upon entering the house a smoldering pipe and a pot grinder was on the table. Miss Smith took full responsibility for both items. A total of one gram of pot was found."

Stephenson is in Central Regional Jail with bond set at $5,000.
