12/06/2017 - 77-year-old Eugene Stevens was found dead at his Cain Road residence just off Norman Ridge Tuesday evening with gunshot wounds.

First Sgt. O. S. Starsick of the WV State Police said Stevens murder was connected to the shooting of Travis Boggs, 25, of Stinson, who was shot in the stomach and head and dumped at the entrance of the Minnie Hamilton emergency room at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Stevens was discovered unresponsive Tuesday evening, an acquaintance called 911 about 6 p.m. An ambulance was dispatched to the scene and West Virginia State Police responded to investigate.

"We have discovered evidence that links the shootings," said Sgt. Starsick.

Police said it seems like Stevens was attempting to defend himself in a home invasion and fired off shots at the people.

During that crossfire, one of the intruders in Stevens' home was hit. Police believe that man was Boggs, who was later dropped off at Minnie Hamilton Hospital in Grantsville.

Police did not confirm if Stevens knew the individuals in the home invasion.

Troopers said findings at the home of Stevens show that Boggs was connected to the scene.

Officers said multiple shots had been fired in the Stevens residence.

His body was sent to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy.

Stevens was a well-know Calhoun bluegrass musician and had been a candidate for sheriff.

State Police are continuing their investigation of the Travis Boggs shooting earlier in the day, indicating charges would likely be filed against him. Boggs is in Charleston Area Medical Center.
