UPDATE: CALHOUN-ROANE SEARCH FOR WOMAN WHO REPORTED SHE WAS "HUNG UP" AT UNKNOWN LOCATION

8:30 AM 9/18/2017 - After several hours of searching, a 69-year-old woman was found in a wooded area about 8:30 a.m. in the Boggs Fork area off US 33-119 east of Spencer.

The woman had reportedly abandoned her stuck vehicle and had gone into the woods.

She was taken to the hospital for evaluation and then released.

3 AM - A 69-year-old woman, newly arrived from Florida to Roane County, went missing Sunday night in Roane or Calhoun county, then calling on a cell phone saying she was hung up in a mud hole.

She had been visiting friends on Barnes Run, Calhoun County.

She had not made it home at 2 a.m. Monday.

Officials said the woman has early dementia.

The woman made contact by cell phone about 3 a.m., indicating she was still hung up, but she didn't know where she was.

Officials were trying to "ping" her location.

She reportedly traveled from the Starcher Run section of Roane to visit her friends on Barnes Run, a section of road that goes from Rt. 16, Mt. Zion, to Altizer Road (Barnes Run Church) at the West Fork of the Little Kanawha.

Dozens of side roads were being searched by responders after the initial 911 alert at 2 a.m.

State Police, Calhoun Sheriffs Department, and the Arnoldsburg and Grantsville VFD are involved in the search, which included the Altizer, Rocksdale, Richardson and Husk Ridge areas.

Responders were also searching in Roane County.
