West Virginia State Police said a Clay County man had to be flown to the hospital Tuesday morning after being shot multiple times by his father.

Troopers say it happened around 4:30 am in the Hartland area of Clay County.

Troopers said Mark Workman had been staying at his father's house in Hartland, his father also named Mark.

The father told troopers when he arrived at his house Tuesday morning his son was there, holding a shotgun and threatening to kill him.

Troopers said that is when the father pulled out his own gun, a .22 revolver, and shot his son several times.

The younger Workman had to be flown to Charleston Area Medical Center General Hospital.

Information about the extent of his injuries wasn't immediately available. Troopers said if he does survive, he will face criminal charges. The younger Workman had warrants out on him and was not allowed to possess a firearm. Officers said his father shot his son in self-defense and will likely not face charges.
