WEST VIRGINIA ALMOST THE WORST STATE TO RETIRE?

(04/02/2017)
West Virginia has an aging population, but a report ranks the state near the bottom in the country as among the best places in the USA to retire.

Bankrate.com lists the Mountain State as the second worst state to retire.

The report said the state's weaknesses are seniors' well-being (worst in the nation).

Then cultural vitality (second lowest).

And then health care quality (tied for third worst).

West Virginia has the third highest percentage of residents age 65 and over. The Census in 2015 said 18.2 percent of West Virginia's residents were 65 years or older compared to the United States average of 14.9 percent.

The report listed Alaska as the worst place in the country to retire, while Arkansas was 48th and New Mexico was 47th.

New Hampshire was ranked as the best place in the country to retire. The other top five spots in order were Colorado, Maine, Iowa and Minnesota.
