NEW RULES: "CELEBRATION" CUPCAKES AND CANDY RETURNED TO WV CLASSROOMS

(03/13/2017)
Officials have lifted the statewide ban on bringing foods like cupcakes and candy into public school classrooms for celebrations.

The decision to allow people to bring outside non-nutritional food into classrooms for celebrations now rests with county public school systems.

The earlier rule was made when studies indicated state children (and adults) are among the most obese in America.

Deputy State Schools Superintendent Cindy Daniel said the ban wasn't in state board policy, but instead was in a guidance document sent out in 2012 that is now being rescinded.
