SMITHVILLE FAMILY LOST EVERYTHING IN FIRE

(01/10/2017)
Fire destroyed a mobile home near Smithville in Ritchie County Sunday evening, leaving a family homeless.

According to the Ritchie County Office of Emergency Services, firefighters from Smithville, Harrisville and Cairo were called to the residence at 13329 Gillespie Run Road about 7:20 p.m.

Van and Kirsten Putnam and their two children lost everything in the fire.

A spokesman for the Harrisville Volunteer Fire Department says most of the damage was done by the time crews arrived because of the remote location.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The American Red Cross is being called to assist the family.
