GRANTSVILLE MAN SKIMS SPENCER POLICE AS DRUG INFORMANT

A Grantsville man, Joseph C. Southers, 40, who resides on Wigner Street, has been charged by with keeping most of the drugs he bought with Spencer Police Department cash, apparently as an informant.

The Times Record/Roane County Reporter says Southers offered to help police after being arrested for shoplifting.

On one occasion he was given $200 to purchase crystal meth, but returned with only 0.6 grams.

On another occasion he was given $400 to purchase four grams but returned with 1.5 grams.

Southers was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and one count of shoplifting.

He was in Central Regional Jail with bond set at $110,000.
