HUR HERALD STATUS QUO - Thousands Of Stories And Photos Under Archives

(04/09/2017)
New news stories will be added at times, but the broad coverage done by the Herald for 20 years should not be expected.

The Herald will attempt to cover a few stories that would generally not be covered.

Unfortunately, what is nuts and bolts reporting, crimes, court cases, obits, fires, marriages, accidents, real estate transfers, etc. will not likely be reported starting June 1, 2016.

Since the Herald quit doing daily news, the weekly readership has fallen to between 35,000-40,000 visitors each week.

The readership had a 20-year peak in November, 2016, after breaking the story about a Clay County official making racial statements about first lady Michelle Obama. The readership peaked at over 500,000 visitors in 48 hours.

Since then, on some days, the Herald continues to break readership records, despite scant news coverage.

The Herald will be available on-line until May 31, 2017.

Without advertisers, the Herald could rely on a fundraiser to keep the project going for another year, and with the preservation of the huge archives.

We encourage visitors to the Hur Herald to check the large archives.

Stories and Photos under PEOPLE, HUMOR AND HISTORY and under COLUMNS.

We are adding several hundred stories.

Visit Norma Knotts Shaffers vast collection of historical photos under PHOTO OF DAY.

The daily news from times past is under ARCHIVES, in addition to other features.

We thank the hundreds that have emailed or called regarding the close-down of daily Herald news on May 31, 2016.

We thank our readers, supporters and advertisers for allowing the Herald to exist for over 20 years.
