for visionary Christian school in Calhoun

ORIGINAL STORY - The Little Kanawha Valley Christian School hosted a public meeting Sunday in Grantsville, seeking students for the visionary project.

Board member Bruce Fitzwater and Pastor Barry Skaggs, among others, explained the vision for the school, saying it is not intended to compete with the public school system.

The school will be located in facilities at the Brooksville Missionary Baptist Church, with an opening date scheduled for August, 2016.

"It is imperative that if you are seriously considering enrolling a student in the school, you should make contact as soon as possible, " said Fitzwater.

Handouts were given to a large number of people attending, with another organizational meeting set for May 7 at 7 p.m. at Grantsville's senior center.

Organizers said the curriculum for the school is under serious study, and will also include Bible classes.

Transportation to the school must be provided by parents or guardians, but further transportation alternatives could be developed.

Currently, the cost of tuition for one child is $3,900, with the school looking to obtain some financial assistance for some students from the community.

There is a $100 enrollment fee, the school yet to decide about providing meals.

Organizers say there will be a full administrative staff and teacher, supported by volunteers.

Volunteers will be needed for a number of supportive positions, from janitors and office workers to coaches and enrichment programs.

The pending phone number is 304-354-6346, with a mailing address at PO Box 642, Grantsville WV 26147.

The board of directors, Bob Bailey, David Cain, Bruce Fitzwater, Ken Heiney, Susan Pitts, Sue Williams, and Marlan Zwoll have worked closely with the steering committee to create the school.
