John E. Dawson, 91 - Parkersburg

John E. Dawson, 91, of Parkersburg WV, passed away on April 3, 2016 at Worthington Manor Nursing Home.

John was born December 4, 1924 in Annamoriah, WV, to David Kelsey and Scottie Dawson.

After graduating from Calhoun County high school in 1943, he served in the US Army during WWII and in the Battle of the Bulge.

On April 18, 1947 he married Mayme Parrill and together they raised two children, He graduated from Glenville State College and taught elementary school in Calhoun County, retiring after 30 years of teaching. He was a Christian and had earlier attended Edgelawn UM Church. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Mayme Dawson of Parkersburg; daughter, Sandra Sullivan and husband Thomas of Washington WV; son, Rick Dawson and wife Wanda of Parkersburg; granddaughters, Mary Tinnel (Robert), Lisa Roberts (Michael, Vicki Lemon, Ann Lambert (Joseph); great grandsons, Aidan, Carrick and Truman Roberts, Nicholas and Jacob Lemon, Tristen and Conner Tinnel, Elliot and Seth Lambert; sisters, Edna Mason of Jacksonville IL and Carolyn Elza of Parkersburg.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Glen Dawson.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 6, 2016, from 12:30 pm to 2 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with grandson-in-law, Joseph Lambert officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memory Gardens.
