David Martin Van Buren, 99 - Rosedale

David Martin Van Buren, 99, of Rosedale, WV passed away at his home, Tuesday, March 15, 2016.

He was born January 29, 1917 in Braxton County, WV, a daughter of the late George and Sophia Putnam Van Buren.

He was a WWII veteran, an equipment operator for the WVDOH, and he was a farmer and timberman. He has participated in the Center West Virginia Mule and Donkey Show at Holly Gray Park where he won the Oldest Driver Award several years. He has participated in this show 21 of the past 22 years. A special thank you goes to all family and friends who made this possible for him.

He is survived by son, Wesley, Van Buren; adopted son, Joseph Lee Van Buren; daughters, Bethel Hamrick, Midge (Harold) Park, Janet (Bill) White, and Evelyn (Benny) Miller; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Van Buren; brothers, Albert Van Buren and Donald Nelson Van Buren; sisters, Flossie Hardway, Ethel Morris, Edna Nicholas, Hollie Abersold, Audra Bourne, Gertrude Bennett, and Fannie Alkire; son, Paul Van Buren; granddaughter, Sharon Rose White; and great-grandson, Chandler Canterbury.

Funeral services will be held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Kenneth Tanner officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in Mill Fork Cemetery, Rosedale.
