Alice Ann (Conley) Miller, 87 - Chesapeake, Ohio

(03/05/2016)
Alice Ann (Conley) Miller, 87, born to Ord and Ethel Conley and raised in Zona, WV, near Gandeeville, passed peacefully at home in Chesapeake, Ohio after a long illness on March 4, 2016.

At her bedside were daughter and son, Lila Conley-Miller and Jack Michael Miller, and special friend, Theresa Adkins.

Alice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Durbin Miller, an infant son, Matthew Conley Miller, three sisters and seven brothers.

Alice was a long-time resident of Spencer, WV, where she could always be found volunteering with the auxiliary at Roane General Hospital, at the Black Walnut Festival, and for activities with her special interest in establishing the Market Street Chapel. She loved physical activities-exercise class, line-dancing, tai chi, and water aerobics.

Another of her interests was art and painting and she mentored her grandchildren and local children in that pursuit. In the not-so-distant past she was often spotted running the five-mile trek on Route 36 from Spencer to her home on Vandale Fork. Most of all she had a passionate love for her family, friends, and community.

Alice is survived by Lila, Mike, and grandchildren Justin Paul Krukiel, Sarah Conley-Miller, Jason (Jay) Matthew and Candace Miller, Michael Edwin and Lisa Miller, and Scott James Miller. Her four great-grandsons Jack, Ian, Jackson and Elijah will soon be joined by boy number five, Conley, due in August. She has three surviving sisters-Thelma Hughes, Mildred Turner, and Janet Smith, and a brother and sister-in-law, Jason and Joann Conley.

Alice's giving spirit, kindness, and caring attitude leave us with a life that is truly to be celebrated. Let us be inspired by her life well-lived as we mourn her passing.

Her service will be held at John H. Taylor Funeral Home in Spencer at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 7 with visitation from 12:00 until 2:00. Burial will be in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in Zona. The family requests that donations may be made to Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, the Market Street Chapel project (Julie Boggs), the Roane County Scholarship Fund (Paul Hughes) or Hospice of Huntington.
